Medication
This can be broadly divided into 2 sections:
1. Control of acute symptoms – this may
be a tablet or injection to reduce any vertigo and
nausea during the initial severe spell of symptoms
2. Control/prevention of ongoing chronic symptoms – these
are medications designed to be taken on a longer term basis to reduce
on going symptoms or control on going apparently spontaneous spells
of dizziness
Surgery
Surgery is not the main modality of treatment for dizziness.
However, surgical options are available for specific causes of dizziness.
Most of the surgical options would be considered only in cases of
intractable severe dizziness that has not responded to other therapies
or medication and are therefore only considered as a last
resort. There are a number of surgical options that have been used,
several of which are still under scientific scrutiny as to their
effectiveness.
All surgery carries associated risk and your physician/surgeon will
discuss this with you fully before proceeding with any surgical
option.
